February Folk Day
Once again the great and the good of North West Folk enthusiasts gathered in Hoole for their
traditional celebration of music and snow! However there was a warm welcome in the bar and the
Clinging Catering Corporation had the kettle on for us designated drivers!
SOLAN MARIE LITTLE
A lot of very hard work goes into an event like this and even though the organisers and helpers
enjoy their work, I would like to thank them all and say well done!
P.S. I must just commend the Clinging Catering Corporation on the new venture - waitress service!

Saturday 28th February 2004
Solan hosted the lunchtime session (good to see them up north again) and then we were on to the
Afternoon Concert. John Finnan welcomed all and, as usual, the programme was full of contrasts
and excellent music.

ROY CLINGING
Roy Clinging started the entertainment and soon had us forgetting the cold
weather and enjoying ourselves. Solan had us tapping our feet and admiring their skills on
concertina and guitar and Marie Little had us singing along with her songs, some sad, some
humorous, all sung with warmth and sincerity. Top of the bill were Nancy Kerr and James Fagan
who enthralled the audience with their highly skilful performance and were an excellent choice
for the Folk Day. I didn't get to the 'Chance to meet' session but I'm sure many who left the
hall after the superb afternoon set were ready to hear more later!

NANCY KERR &
JAMES FAGIN
The constant stream of customers at the bar were evidence, if needed, of people dashing out
between dances or folk club spots for refreshment before hurrying back to enjoy more music.
There's so much to see, do and take part in during the evening, with the Ceilidh, Folk Club,
Chance to Meet and not forgetting the music session in the bar, that I hope to be forgiven for
drifting from one to the other and finally settling in the bar area to catch up with friends who
also valued the opportunity to get together and look forward to this year's Festival.
